THE PLEDGE

The pledge for owners, developers and tenants was created as way for these key decision-makers to show their commitment to reuse. It is meant to send a unified market signal to the commercial sector that there is serious demand to give salvaged building materials a second (or third, or fourth..) life. Signatories of the pledge agree to the general All for Reuse Pledge statement below, and then add at least three of their own specific, self-determined actions that they commit to implementing within the next year to create change within their own organizations.

THE ALL FOR REUSE PLEDGE

We recognize that an enormous volume of commercial TI materials are landfilled prematurely and that increasing reuse of these building products can reduce waste, save embodied carbon, and preserve natural resources and ecosystems. Realizing such benefits will require a paradigm shift in how commercial spaces are fit out, requiring change across the entire value chain. As building owners, developers, and tenants, we recognize the need to take the first step in overcoming this challenge and will request our design and construction teams to incorporate reclaimed materials in building fit outs. Such actions include:

  • Locate deconstruction, salvage and reuse partners

  • Consider specific reclaimed material options within the material palette

  • Understand how to adapt the design process to maximize reuse

  • Creating the infrastructure needed to facilitate reuse
